Restore us, O God; let Your face shine, that we may be saved!…

Restore us, O Lord God of hosts! Let Your face shine, that we may be saved!
-Psalm 80:3, 7, & 19
There is a great desire every day for restoration. The elements and hardships weather us from the inside out. Our bodies give in to an irreversible entropy; no machinations of mankind can truly restore the body. Our only hope for body’s resurrection is when Christ returns to make all things new.
But the inner self can find restoration now—not full restoration, but a foretaste of heavenly newness. We call upon the Lord to restore us. He is God. He is God of hosts. He is Lord God of hosts. He is all this and more. He is fully able to restore the heart that is broken by unfortunate circumstances.
The pain runs deep. The Holy Spirit reaches deeper. God knows the fullness of the heart and knows exactly how to repair the broken places. He knows the desperate needs and desires. In moments of emptiness, we must be confident that we are being emptied in order for something new to be poured in.
