Dead and Alive

Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

As we are conformed to the image of Christ in this process called sanctification, we live a dual life. That is not to say we are to be double-minded or be caught in double speak. Rather, to the world we are walking among the living as the dead, and in the spiritual realm we are walking as the living amongst the dead.

We are dead to the world; no one can fraternize with a dead body. As such, a predator has no further business with prey that is long since deceased. The power of sin has no sway over us, for we have died to sin. Christ conquered that power of sin in His death.

In Christ we have been given new life, and this is not a new life that we must forfeit at the grave. This new life shall never pass from our possession, for we share in the same life that Christ Jesus Himself possesses. Live this new life. Live to God. Do not dread the grave, for it has been sapped of its threatening power over us. Live a life that points to the everlasting life—beyond the grave—that can only be found in Jesus.
